Groundwork Denton Concrete Company

Concrete Contractor in Aubrey, TX - Driveways and Patios That Stay Even

Groundwork Denton Concrete Company pours driveways, patios, walks and slabs for homes in Aubrey, Texas. We dig out and pack the ground underneath, plan where the water runs, and cut joints so the concrete stays even.

A broad decorative concrete driveway with irregular tan stone-pattern stamping leads to a three-car garage beside a fenced lawn.

I started Groundwork Denton Concrete Company after years of patching sunken walks and cracked driveways for a property management company, because I wanted to pour new work with the care the old work never got. From our base in Denton, we build driveways, patios, steps and slabs for homeowners in Aubrey, and we're best known for the prep underneath that nobody sees.

  • Ground dug out and packed first
  • Drainage planned before the pour
  • Finished job walked together

Aubrey driveways, patios and the ground under them

Most of the calls we get across the cities we serve are for driveways, patios and walks, and the trouble usually starts underneath. Where a slab has sunk or tipped toward the house, the base was often just raked level instead of dug out and packed, so it settled with the dirt and water started pooling where it shouldn't.

On an Aubrey job, I look at what the old slab is telling us before we price the new one, because cracks and chipping usually point back to the base, the drainage or joints that were cut too late.

Concrete work we do in Aubrey

Pick the work your Aubrey property needs and see how we handle it, from the base we dig out to the finish you walk on.

  • Concrete driveway building

New driveways dug out, packed, sloped away from the house and jointed before cracks can pick their own spots.

  • Concrete patio construction

Backyard patios poured on a packed base and pitched so rain runs off toward the yard, not your back door.

  • Stamped concrete services

For the look of stone or brick, we press a pattern into fresh concrete over the same solid base.

  • Concrete sidewalk building

Front walks and side paths with a broom finish, a light brushed texture that gives shoes some grip.

  • Garage floor concrete

Garage slabs built for the cars and tools on them, finished smooth and cut with joints that guide cracking.

  • Decorative concrete

Colored, stained or exposed-aggregate concrete for walks and patios, planned around the same drainage and base work as plain gray.

  • Concrete retaining walls

Where a yard drops off, a concrete wall holds the dirt back and gives water behind it a way out.

  • Concrete floor installation

Interior concrete floors for shops, sheds and additions, poured flat so equipment and shelving sit level.

  • Concrete pool decks

Pool decks with a textured surface for wet feet, sloped to carry splash water away from the pool.

  • Concrete steps construction

Front and back steps formed with even risers so each step feels the same under your feet.

  • Slab foundation building

Slab foundations for new homes, garages and outbuildings, with the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, prepared first.

  • Foundation installation

Foundations for additions and new buildings, laid out, formed and poured with rebar, steel bars that hold the concrete together.

  • Concrete parking lot building

Parking areas for shops, offices and small businesses, built with a base and thickness meant for steady traffic.

  • Concrete footings

Footings under porches, decks, columns and additions, dug down so the weight above has somewhere solid to sit.

  • Foundation raising

When part of a slab has dropped, we lift it back toward level and look at why it went down.

  • Concrete cutting

Clean saw cuts for new doorways, plumbing trenches or taking out a damaged section without breaking up the rest.

What to settle before an Aubrey pour

The price of a driveway or patio mostly comes down to its size, how much old concrete gets torn out and hauled off, how much digging the base needs and the finish you pick. The schedule turns on whether the city reviews a permit, when we can pour, and curing, the days new concrete needs to harden. Your written estimate spells out what's included.

If the budget gets tight, I'd rather you pick a plainer finish than skimp on the base. Nobody sees the base on day one, but it's what keeps the slab even and draining for years, and I spent a long time fixing slabs that skipped it.

  • Where rain should run off the slab, away from your house
  • Whether tearing out and hauling the old concrete is in the price
  • A plain broom finish, or stamped, colored or decorative concrete
  • Where you'll park while the new driveway cures

How an Aubrey job runs

  1. I come out and look

I measure, look at what's under the old slab and where the water goes, and show you where the joints will guide any cracking.

  2. Estimate and permit

You get a written estimate of what's included. If an Aubrey permit's needed, we apply, and plan review typically takes 10 to 14 business days on a complete application.

  3. Pour and walk-through

Our crew handles the prep, forms, pour and finish, I check the key steps, and we walk the finished job with you before we pack up.

Aubrey concrete questions

Do I need a permit for a new concrete driveway or patio in Aubrey?

Driveways and patios are both on the list of work the City of Aubrey issues permits for, and Development Services issues them. When your job needs one, we handle the application and schedule the inspections. If I'm not sure what applies, I check with the city before we start.

Does a concrete contractor have to register with the City of Aubrey?

Yes. The city issues permits and does inspections only for contractors with a current city registration. It costs $55, lasts one year, can't be passed to another company and needs a current certificate of insurance, so it's fair to ask anyone you hire whether theirs is up to date.

Will my new concrete driveway crack like my old one did?

New concrete can still crack, but control joints, the straight grooves we cut across the slab on time, give it a planned place to do it so cracks follow those lines. The bigger difference is underneath, where we dig out and pack the base so the slab has firm ground under it.

How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

You can walk on new concrete well before you can drive on it, because it keeps curing and gaining strength after it looks dry. I'll tell you when your pour is ready for feet and when it's ready for tires, and we plan where your cars go meanwhile.
