Slab foundation building in Denton TX - a house that sits on solid, well-drained ground

Planning a new home in Denton? We prepare the ground, finish the under-slab work and pour the slab to your lot's design.

Groundwork Denton Concrete Company is a Denton concrete contractor. I learned concrete fixing walks, driveways and steps that had cracked or sunk, and now we pour new work with the care that old work never got. Slab foundation building is part of that, along with driveways, patios and the prep under them that nobody sees, in Denton and the cities around it.

Slab foundation building in Denton, TX

A slab foundation is the concrete your whole house sits on, poured on prepared ground with the plumbing and electrical lines run beneath it. The ground under a house slab is hard to fix once the walls are up, so we get the base right and finish the under-slab work and inspections before we pour. If your plans call for a different kind of base, see our foundation installation page.

Your price turns on the slab's size, how much work the ground needs and the steel your design calls for. The schedule turns mostly on the plumber and electrician finishing underneath, the inspections and the weather. My written estimate lays out what's included.

  • Ground and subgrade. We dig out and pack the subgrade, the soil the slab sits on, and repair soft or disturbed spots before anything covers them.
  • Under-slab lines. The plumbing and electrical lines beneath the slab go in and pass inspection before we finish the base, since they're hard to reach later.
  • Forms and steel. We set the forms that shape the slab's edges and the steel inside it, which holds the concrete together when the ground shifts.
  • Pour and cure. We pour, level and finish the slab, then protect it while it cures, the slow hardening that gives concrete its strength.

Slab foundations we build

We build slab foundations for new houses and for the additions and garages that go with them, reinforced the way the slab design for your lot calls for.

  • New house slabs

The full foundation for a new home, from clearing and packing the ground to the final finish, with the plumbing and electrical lines set underneath.

  • Post-tensioned slabs

Slabs with steel cables, called tendons, run through them and tightened after the concrete hardens, when your lot's design calls for that kind of reinforcement.

  • Rebar slabs

Slabs reinforced with a grid of rebar, the steel bars set inside the concrete, built to the thickness and layout your slab design shows.

  • Additions and garages

Smaller slabs for a room addition or an attached garage, prepared the same way as a full house slab because walls sit on them just the same.

Need a slab for a shop or barn, or a concrete parking lot for a business? Call and ask, even if it isn't listed here.

Why a slab foundation is worth doing right

A slab is the one part of a house you can't get back to once the walls go up. Built right, it carries the house evenly and keeps moisture from coming up through your floors.

  • Water sent awayBefore we form, I check where water will run off the lot, because drainage is hard to change once the house is up.
  • Fill on recordWhere a lot has been filled, that history gets written down, so anyone working on the house later knows what's under it.
  • Fewer, tighter cracksThe Post-Tensioning Institute, a trade group, says post-tensioned slabs crack less and keep cracks tight, so less water and fewer insects get in.
  • Built to your designWe build to the slab design drawn for your lot, so the steel and the shape match the ground under it.

How a slab job runs with us

  1. I come out to your lot

After you reach us, I come out myself to measure, look at the ground and talk through what goes under the slab and where water will drain.

  2. Your written estimate

I send a written estimate that spells out what's included, like whether tear-out and hauling are part of it, so you know what the price covers.

  3. We build and walk it

Our own crew handles the prep, forms, pour and finish, and I check the work at the key steps. We walk the finished slab with you before we pack up.

Why homeowners hire us for slab work

We treat the ground under a slab as the main job, not as the prep before it, and you hear what's in the price before we pour. When you're ready, call (940) 287-2036 or send the form.

  • Learned on repairs

I spent years patching walks, driveways and steps that had cracked or sunk, so I know which shortcuts underneath come back later.

  • Base before finish

When a budget gets tight, I'd put the money into the base, because you can redo a surface but not the ground under a house.

  • Straight answers up front

I'll tell you what's in the price and what's normal for new concrete before we pour, so you know what you're looking at.

Slab foundations in Denton and nearby cities

Inside Denton city limits, the city's Building Safety Division issues the permit and inspects the work, and the city keeps its own contractor registration as well. Lots in unincorporated Denton County go through the county, where third-party inspectors check the foundation stage. We handle the application and schedule the inspections with whichever office covers your address.

The city posts the inspection records for a new house on eTRAKiT and doesn't issue a certificate of occupancy, so when you need proof the house is done, you print the Final Inspection Report there. On lots in Corinth, Argyle and the other cities around Denton, if I'm not sure what applies, I check with that office before we start.

Tell us about your lot

Send your lot address, whether it's in city limits or the county, and any plans. I'll reply within one business day to set up a free, no-obligation estimate on site.

Questions about slab foundations

How much does a slab foundation cost near Denton TX?

A concrete slab in the Dallas area usually costs about $6,000 to $15,000 per job, going by one Dallas cost guide. That guide says the Blackland Prairie clay common there swells a lot, so foundations on it need structural reinforcement and cost more. Your own figure comes from my written estimate after I see the lot.

Is a post-tensioned slab a good fit for soil that shrinks and swells?

It can be. The Post-Tensioning Institute says post-tensioned slabs resist the stress shrink-swell soil puts on them better than slabs that aren't prestressed, and calls them a cost-efficient option for that ground. The final choice comes from the slab design drawn for your lot, and we build to that design.

Can I drill into a post-tensioned slab later?

Yes, as long as the steel cables inside it, called tendons, are located first and the work follows qualified procedures. Those cables are pulled tight, so hitting one by accident is a serious problem. Ask anyone you hire to drill or cut how they'll find the tendons before they start.

What should I ask a builder about the vapor barrier under my slab?

Ask how the crew seals the seams of the vapor retarder your plans specify, and how they'll protect it from the trades that come after. That plastic sheet under the slab slows ground moisture, and a torn sheet or open seam lets it through. We seal ours and look it over again right before the pour.
